Discharge Printing Bandanas

The preferred method of decoration for custom bandanas is Discharge Printing Bandanas. Bandanas can be printed in two ways, digitally or via screen printing.  The vast majority of bandanas printed each year are screen printed, using water based, discharge inks. These inks remove the pigment from the fabric of the bandana and replace it with the new image and dye. Think about what precise bleaching might look like. That is essentially how we decorate these custom bandanas. Bleaching is a portion of the analogy that describes the method. Bleaching leaves white, but discharge printing starts by leaving white, and then replacing that white with the pigment of your choice.

So why would you want to use discharge printing as your preferred method?  It’s the light touch that everyone loved. Water based dye inks don’t sit on top of the fabric, they embed themselves within the fabric, making the bandana much softer and smoother.

We offer up to 10 different colors of print per bandana. The majority of bandanas that are produced each year range from 1 to 3 colors. Another nice nuance to our production capabilities are how we can go to the edge of the bandana as well as spill off the edge. This type of full bleed bandana printing makes each bandana look like it was made with custom fabric.

Using water based inks are a much better choice when developing custom bandanas. Most screen printers us plastisol which is scratchy and sits on top of the fabric. When using bandanas for your neck, face and head, you won’t want a scratchy plastisol feel.
